Giving has been a cornerstone of West's culture, and our team continues to seek new ways to make a greater impact for the long term. West’s China site partnered with Green Food Bank to be the first company sponsoring a farm to grow sustainable food from seed to feed those in need, giving back to the communities in a sustainable way.
Through this partnership, West helps to support the reduction of food waste by providing a platform to encourage more people to take actions for sustainable development in local communities.
Our team led by example. 16 West team members volunteered to participate in this sustainability movement. After a brief orientation that gave insights into the food journey and its situation in Shanghai, the team had a better understanding of the value and necessity of food, further fueling the team's passion to plant with their own hands.
Three different kinds of seed were sowed on our sponsored land. They will mature in 1,3, and 6 months, respectively, and the fruits of their labor will be given to families in need.
We look forward to these seeds thriving with love and delivering help to many people. Building on the momentum, we continue to help, to give, and to care as we always bear this in mind: a healthier world, a better future.

The European medicines regulatory system is based on a network of around 50 regulatory authorities from 30 EEA (European Economic Area) countries (27 EU Member States plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway), the European Commission and the EMA (European Medicines Agency). For a medicinal product to be available on the market it needs to have a marketing authorisation. The marketing authorisation application (MAA) must provide evidence of the efficacy, safety and quality of the medicine. When applying for a marketing authorisation for a medicine, the marketing authorisation application is submitted to a regulatory authority, which will assess the medicinal product’s pharmaceutical and chemical quality, efficacy and safety, as well as its risk-benefit ratio.
Since 1973 West and Daikyo have embarked on a journey of partnership that has been essential to understanding customer challenges and providing solutions. Celebrating 100-years of West this year, it also marks 50-years of partnership with Daikyo. We recently held an engaging team member event with our Daikyo team as part of our ongoing 100th speaker series. Fran DeGrazio, Vice President, Global R&D, TCS and SPM, Pharmaceutical Packaging Systems, recently contributed a chapter on primary container components to <em>Quality by Design for Biopharmaceutical Drug Product Development</em>. The volume, which was released in April 2015, is the first comprehensive overview of QbD as it applies to nearly every aspect of biopharmaceutical development.
We are very pleased to announce that two of our sites in Asia Pacific have received two additional safety accreditations recently, which further demonstrates and acknowledges our team’s continuous commitment to health, safety, and environment throughout West and the industry.
<p><span style="background: white;">The West Ambassador Internship Program is a well-established summer intern program that traditionally runs for ten weeks from the end of May to the beginning of August. Interns are key contributors to our company and this fully paid internship program is instrumental in shaping future careers. We value the insight and fresh perspective our interns bring to the table. Each year, the goal of the program is to give real-world practical experience to college students that are near entry level employment, to give them an opportunity to work alongside industry experts.</span><span> </span><span>We work by the side of our interns to ensure they have <span style="background: white;">the opportunity to learn, discover and apply new found knowledge within their fields.</span></span></p><p><span style="background: white;">This summer, the 2019 intern class consisted of 24 interns across the US, 16 of them residing at the global headquarters in Exton, Pennsylvania. The remaining eight interns were stationed at other West US locations in the offices of Tempe, Scottsdale and Phoenix, Arizona, as well as Kinston, North Carolina and Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania. </span></p>
