West team members helped to spread the word about how fun and rewarding technology careers really can be when they attended the Girls Exploring Tomorrow’s Technology (GETT) event on March 21, 2015, at the Great Valley High School in Malvern, PA. More than 530 young women attended the event, which encourages middle school and high school age girls to pursue careers in technology, sciences, engineering, and art and design. GETT is a STEM program (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) designed to ensure students are exposed to scientific disciplines and make them aware of their career options in these fields.
On March 25, 2017, West team members participated in the Girls Exploring Tomorrow’s Technology (GETT) Expo, a STEM career exploration event for girls in Grades 5 - 10. West sponsored the event which took place at West Chester East High School in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Employees representing a variety of functions within the business helped to staff the booth.<br />
Since its inception in 2011, the <a href="http://www.dasd.org/STEM"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Downingtown Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Academy</span></a> has quickly earned the ranking as the number one high school in the state of Pennsylvania. With the STEM Academy located in the same district as West’s corporate headquarters, and a strong corporate culture of giving back to the community, a partnership between the two organizations was a natural fit.
Students from the <a href="https://www.dasd.org/STEM">Downingtown STEM Academy</a>, ranked the most challenging high school in Pennsylvania by the Washington Post, shadowed West’s Ambassador Interns during the week of June 26. Interns Andrew Ciciriello, Beth Crawford, Marissa D’Amelio, Neal Geosits, Hannah Grubb and Luke Lawn were each paired with a student and asked to mentor them on career options and the transition from high school to college.
West’s Waterford, Ireland site recently partnered with CALMAST which is Waterford Institute of Technology’s (WIT) STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) engagement hub that was established in 2003 to drive more awareness of STEM, building on the work of secondary schools in the south east region of Ireland.
