In July, the western states of Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany experienced devastating floods caused by days of extreme rainfall. Our Eschweiler and Stolberg production sites and Kiefernweg Campus were not directly impacted; however, the communities were heavily affected. While we are thankful that none of our team members were injured, we empathize with many of them who are dealing with damage to their homes and personal property, as well as trauma caused by such a devastating event.
There is huge solidarity amongst the people who live and work in the area. Every hand is needed to help with clean-up activities organized in the area. West team members were eager to support the efforts, and many of them have given their time to help colleagues with personal property damages and the wider community by cleaning up homes and public spaces such as playgrounds for children.

Our One West Team commitment to putting people first is a defining feature of West. This was evidenced by our team members’ drive and resolution to assist their colleagues and the local community at such a challenging time for everyone in the area.
For many years, West has targeted its philanthropic efforts to support charities focused on children, people with disabilities, healthcare and education, with a focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) — all within the communities in which our team members live and work. The Company’s giving strategy focuses on three elements: Corporate Giving through direct charitable gifts made by West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc.; the Herman O. West Foundation, an independently managed 501(c)(3) entity, which awards scholarships and matching gifts; and West without Borders*, our team member-led giving program.
Philanthropy is a cornerstone of West’s culture. It anchors our purpose of standing by the side of our customers to help make a difference in our global community.
Our commitment to philanthropy has been embedded in West’s culture for more than 95 years, and is an integral part of our overall Corporate Responsibility Program. In particular, 2019 was a banner year for philanthropy at West. Our team members closed out the decade with considerable personal investments in both time and resources dedicated to improving their local communities and promoting a healthier world. Our Culture of Giving is a key aspect of the team member experience at all of West’s global sites.

From all corners of the globe, our team members banded together to uplift their local communities during our Sixth Annual Global Food Drive. The COVID pandemic has contributed to a severe increase in global food insecurity, due to loss of incomes, disruptions in food supply chains, and other factors resulting from COVID. Our communities are in acute need of our help more than ever.
